My Story of Becoming a Rustic Furniture Builder

If I can build rustic furniture and all kinds of garden accessories you can too! This is the story of how I came to be a rustic furniture builder and why I created this website.

It all started about 10 years ago with the cover of a book. The book cover had on it a man sitting in a unique rustic chair made of tree branches. This book was about herbal remedies, and it received a lot of use in our house. I would frequently pull the book down to look up a remedy and there on the cover would be the picture of the man sitting in the chair. I often thought to myself, "Someday, I want to build a chair like that." Years went by, and one day as I pulled the book out and saw the chair, I thought to myself, "I'm sick of thinking about making that chair; I'm gonna do it!" So I did.

With virtually no woodworking experience, I built my first chair (below).

love seat, rustic bench I had no plans or instructions, but just an idea of what I wanted to build. Needless to say, the chair was quite pathetic and very uncomfortable, but it was a chair, and I had built it myself! The now six year old chair still sits in our back yard and reminds me of the simple beginnings of a very fun hobby and now small business.

After the first chair, I became more interested in making something that would be a little more user-friendly, so I bought a couple of books on the subject and was on my way to learning the art and skill of making rustic furniture. Chair #2(below) which was actually a love seat, turned out a little better.

rustic bench, garden furniture, loveseat I built another, then another, and soon, I started building tables, coat racks, and various garden things. When I would look up in the trees, I didn't see branches. I saw furniture! I was addicted!

About two years into my furniture building endeavors, I had to temporarily relocate with my family. While away for nine months (on military deployment), we lived in an apartment. Being that the move was temporary, we decided not to take our furniture with us, and I built all of the furniture for the apartment myself when we arrived.

As I have continued to read books about building rustic furniture, I searched the Internet in vain for useful information that would help me develop better skills and give me ideas for building. I found that nearly all of the websites devoted to rustic furniture were sites that sell rustic made products. No one seemed to be interested in teaching others this wonderful skill. So, I decided that I would build a website primarily devoted to teaching others how to build rustic furniture.

The Internet to me was something that I had used as a tool for gaining information, and I had never explored the idea of creating my own website with the purpose of giving information to others. Thankfully, very early on in my research, I ran across a company called SiteBuildIt.com. Through Sitebuildit.com, I have learned not only how to build a website, but also how to manage it and turn it into a profitable on-line business.

If you are interested in starting an on-line business or building a website of your own, I would encourage you to check out SiteBuildIt.com. In all of my research on the net, I have found no better company for creating a successful, money-making on-line business.
